Adena is an internationally recognized speaker, author, trainer and consultant, providing a fresh and important look at addiction treatment, traumatic stress and recovery.
She has provided more than 1000 workshops for professionals around the world on topics related to child sexual abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, eating and substance use disorders, other addictions and related mental health issues. Her specialty is childhood sexual abuse, in particular, covert emotional incest.
Adena’s lectures, workshops and presentations are lively, informative, engaging and current. Participants say they are moved by the integration of information that makes sense to them, sometimes for the very first time. They report gaining insight into who they are as professionals enhancing their skills and rapport with a wide spectrum of clientele. Being introduced to covert emotional incest is often the most powerful and life changing piece participants claim to walk away with.
Drawing from 25-plus years of clinical psychotherapy and advanced training in a variety of disciplines and approaches, including psychodrama, Imago Therapy, EMDR, (etc.), Adena has helped develop programs such as Project Safe Place - an outpatient psychotherapy program for child and adolescent sexual abuse survivors; sexuality workshops for inpatient eating disorder treatment centers; and psychodramatic / sociometric warm-up groups for the Global Peace Exchange conferences.
She also works closely with Global Peacebuilders Institute, an international organization that seeks to connect people who are searching for peace in their lives and communities through experiential learning and a foundation in an adapted 12-Step model.
Adena’s book, 12 Healing Steps for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse; A Practical Guide, has been used by hundreds of therapists and recovering people in collaboration with psychotherapy to heal from the emotional and spiritual wounds of childhood sexual abuse.
